“Green” is fast spreading as the color of college campuses — at the rate Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. is topping mock presidential elections in most of them.

The last to join the “green” mania is De La Salle University where green is not just DLSU’s official color in the UAAP but the dominant political statement as well of its students in this presidential election year.

DLSU students went overwhelmingly “green” last Friday in a mock election that gave Teodoro, whose campaign color is green that signifies hope, another runaway victory over survey frontrunner Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino continuing his winning streak as the favorite  presidential candidate of the youth sector on campus.

Buoyed up by the surge of support from students, whose involvement in the presidential campaign is likely to reach historic highs, Lakas-Kampi-CMD national president, Sarangani Gov. Migz Dominguez, said “what we are seeing is a groundswell of support for Teodoro” that could reach its peak in time for the May presidential elections.
“Make no mistake about it — poll after mock poll in campuses, Teodoro is the runaway winner in a sort of meaningful and significant way,” Dominguez said.

“Students are asserting and defining what is good politics and what good leadership is, and they see in Teodoro the personification of good politics and excellent executive leadership,” Dominguez added.

Meanwhile, political leaders from Luzon,Visayas and Mindanao yesterday declared the “engine of competence” is now slowly but surely pushing Teodoro to the brim of the Filipino people’s consciousness as they noted that the vicious mudslinging that is now taking place among some presidential candidates is beginning to become a big turn-off to the public.

“Gibo has consistently refused to be part of this vicious mudslinging and remained very focused on presenting his platform of government. People are beginning to see his good qualities as a leader,” said Nueva Ecija Rep. Rodolfo Antonino, Lakas-Kampi’s vice president for policy.

“He will ultimately win because he has proven he deserves the trust and confidence of the people. He is a hard worker and he came prepared,” Antonino added as he noted that “Gibo made great leaps in the latest survey conducted in Davao City and Cebu.”

Northern Samar Rep. Emil Ong shared Antonino’s view as he pointed out that while Teodoro has still a lot of work to do, his ratings are consistently improving while the other presidential candidates are on a downward trend.

“The campaign period is yet to start but Gibo has consistently clawed his way to the top three in surveys. What more when the people start to hear from him personally on the complex issues that affect their lives,” Ong said.

“Gibo’s low-key attitude, his humility, his clear vision for the country and decisiveness as a leader would really spell our country’s success,” Ilocos Norte Rep. Roquito Ablan, on the other hand, said.

The lawmakers said Gibo will certainly win the hearts of the people when the campaign starts, with his competence, eloquence and deep understanding of the country’s needs to pursue programs that center on peace and human development, protection of the environment and sustained economic recovery and global competitiveness.

“Gibo has in his heart the blueprints on how and what socio-economic and political  infastractures to implement. United as a people, we will surely take off with him at the cockpit,” Davao del Norte Rep. Antonio Lagdameo said.

For several weeks, Teodoro has gone on a campus tour on a wing of hope and change — that is possible to accelerate economic development and attain national prosperity through a combination of leadership, intelligence, experience and a vision of where to take this within this decade.

“This presidential campaign is not about fault-finding and finger-pointing or mudslinging,” Dominguez said. “It is about raising the bar of leadership and setting the goals based on the Filinos’ aspirations.”

Teodoro, who has been preaching all of these, is creating the greatest impact on the minds of students and thinking voters who see politics as competent leadership more than popularity, Dominguez added.
