Barely a week prior to his retirement from the service, Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Victor Ibrado called on the military anew to stay away from partisan politics but be wise when they cast their votes in the May polls.
Ibrado also reminded the frontline units on the crucial role of the AFP in the last leg of the President’s deadline to defeat insurgency in the country, as he also bid military personnel and civilian employes goodbye.
He issued the reminder to the troops during a visit to the Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) at Camp Aquino, Tarlac.
On March 10, Ibrado, member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Magilas” Class 1976, will turn 56, the mandatory retirement age for soldiers.
Ibrado has said he wants to make sure that he will leave behind a solid Team AFP that is committed to the promotion of peace, progress and development.
The outgoing Chief of Staff started making rounds of military camps last month and in all his visits, he emphasized the role of the AFP in the first automated elections to be held in the country.
Ibrado is not keen on term extension because he wants to show that the Armed Forces is a very strong organization and nobody is indispensable.
During his visit to Camp Aquino, the AFP Chief was welcomed by Maj. Gen. Ricardo David Jr., Nolcom commander. He was ushered into the commander’s office for an executive session about the progress of internal security operations in Northern and Central Luzon vis-à-vis the June 2010 deadline, and other significant issues affecting the military organization.
After the meeting, Ibrado bid the officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees goobye who waited for him at the covered court
