Lakas-Kampi-CMD standard bearer Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. has shifted his campaign into high gear, this time by going on mall tours in a bid to lure the support of the wider range of social strata to improve his survey ratings.

Last Saturday afternoon, the 45-year-old former defense secretary led a small group of Lakas- Kampi-CMD candidates who included former Cabinet secretary Silvestre “Bebot” Bello III, now seeking senatorial post; and former presidential adviser on the peace process, retired police Director General Avelino Razon Jr., who is vying for Manila’s mayoralty post, in visiting the Harrizon Plaza in Manila that was crowded with weekend shoppers.
His group later motored to the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City where a bigger crowd of shoppers mobbed their group, asking Gibo for signatures and photo opportunities.

He was later joined by his wife, Rep. Nikki Prieto of Tarlac in the country’s biggest shopping mall.

Lawyer Michael T. Toledo, Teodoro’s campaign spokesman, expressed confidence that Gibo will definitely be the country’s 15th President with the fast increasing number of “converts,” especially students and other young Filipinos, who will make up the critical mass of voters that will ensure his victory in the May 10 polls.

“We are very confident that as the campaign period starts to heat up, definitely he will rise as far as surveys are concerned and as far as the electorate is concerned,” Toledo said.

Toledo expressed belief that eight of 10 voters get converted to support Gibo after they have heard his platform of government and having a first-hand encounter of his candidness and charm.

“They could see the sincerity, his intelligence, talent, youth and vigor,” Toledo said, “so we are confident that the numbers of his supporters will go up.”

During Gibo’s mall tour, admirers approached him to assure them of their votes.

While trailing their candidate, Gibo’s staff distributed campaign materials like fans, baler IDs and t-shirts for the cheering crowd. Others engaged him in a brief chat to give him some unsolicited advice on staying clean as a politician while others assured him of their prayers for his victory.

Since his declaration to seek the presidency in November last year, Teodoro mainly focused on campus tours in the different parts of the country to secure the so-called youth vote
