BATANGAS CITY—Who needs celebrity endorsers?
Not presidential aspirant and Sen. Richard Gordon who said on Wednesday, “I don't need endorsers. If you are a good leader, you need to be able to stand on your own feet.”
Gordon spoke to about 200 pastors here Wednesday at the annual four-day assembly of the Alliance of Bible Christian Communities of the Philippines (ABCCOP).
Commenting further after the event, Gordon said: “If you are really strong, if you are really intelligent, you don't have to depend on endorsers.”
In an apparent reference to popular comedian Dolphy, Gordon asked his audience at the ABCCOP assembly if they would trust the word of “someone whose son had been jailed for drugs.”
Dolphy, who has one son in jail, is endorsing Sen. Manuel Villar.
But Gordon quickly added he was not engaging in negative campaigning, since he was not making up stories. He later said: “We should look for people with moral ground.”
